Praying Mantis August BIOS Mix
Praying Mantis- Bass Camp Recordings; New York, USA
Inspired by his uncles who were local reggae Djs spinning vinyl was
natural thing for Praying Mantis. Growing up he would always listen to
his mothers collection of 45s and make his own mixtapes from the age of
12. It wasnt until 4 years later that the sounds of drum and bass took
control when Valley of the Shadows was caught on the local WVKR radio
station. Despite the love for Drum and bass, it would be some time
before he would start rinsing out tunes. After listening to the likes of Andy C, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawitin, Sven Vath, GOldie, Dr. S. Gachet, DJ Ron, and Kenny Ken he became serious and decided to become a part of the drum and bass movement and perfect the art of
mixing and making people dance.
In 2000 with the help of long time friend DJ Encrypt at DCC Radio
Praying Mantis began Djing Drum and bass and since then he hasn't
looked back. Considered a DJ's DJ and perfectionist, his style
(influenced by the likes of Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, T-1000, Jeff
Mills, Kevin Saunderson, Laurent Garnier and Marco Carola) blends the
sounds of reggae, dub and jungle to create a unique style of Drum and
Bass. Mantis has played from New York to Miami to London along side
some of the best including Equinox, Storm, Marcus Visionary, DJ Craze,
Bad Company, Illiesha, Lion Dub, Sabre, Double O, Krinjah, Human?, DB,
and Reid Speed. Currently He In 2005 he began the broadcast of the Bass Camp Sessions via Internetradio. Even though he always considered himself a DJ first, logical
progression steered him into the studio where he began learning the
fine art of mastering. After creating Bass Camp Recordings in 2006, Praying Mantis has moved into the production side where he is currently planning to release the Northern Mantis Boxing EP
(spring 2009) as well as other releases with production partner Trigon
Currently Bass Camp Recordings artists included Leila, Megha, Hara Isis, Shaolin Intruders (Praying Mantis & Trigon), Aero MC & Hired Gun (Heroes for Hire) and holds the
"The Bass Camp Sessions" in NYC.
